Drone use for measuring roof space

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Most people recognise how clever drone technology is, but there is also now a huge amount of software to use post flight to help make the best use of the images and video captured. We have saved one of our clients huge amounts of time, money and made their work safer by utilising modelling software.

This client is a solar panel installer, previously when quoting work they had to rely on grainy google earth images (often out of date with buildings missing) or for more accurate measurements send a couple of their team to measure the buildings roof space. This cost them valuable time and effort. We can fly over the building and either manually or autonomously (for larger properties) take many images from different angles and heights. This often only takes 10-20 minutes flying time.

The images are then processed back at the office to create a 3D model of the property. This model can then be measured where needed and includes minute details such as gaps between vents or roof lights and pitch of roofs and height for their scaffold contractors benefit.
